Strawberry pierogies or dumplings

Posted in: main dish

Pierogies with strawberries are flavorful and delicious; you just can’t go past them.

It takes some time and patience to prepare them: make the dough, knead, roll out the dough and cut out and create the pierogies itself.

But when you have done all this work you have a ready in 10 minutes dinner or breakfast anytime. (Plus you can’t beat the flavor and deliciousness of these pierogies.

For the recipe you will need:

Dough:

1 cup of water

1 egg

2.5-3 cups of sifted flour

Stuffing:

1 lb. finely chopped strawberries

Making the dough is really simple: mix water with egg , stir very well, then add the flour and form the dough, knead and add as much flour as it will be necessary for the dough to be quite firm. Not sticky and wet.

Roll out the layer and cut it with the round cookie cutter, or with the round cup.

Put in each round dough shape the stuffing and seal it by connecting the two halves with your index finger and a thumb.

Repeat with each round dough shape up until you will be done with the dough.

Don’t make the dough layers too thin, because the acidic strawberry filling will destroy your perogies.

When you are done with your dough. Set 4 qt saucepan full of water, when the water starts boiling cook   half of the pierogies you prepared for 10-15 minutes. (Half of the pierogies you cooked will serve 2 people . The other half may be frozen uncooked  and stored for as long as you need.)

The pierogies may be cooked with pretty much any filling: with raspberries and cherries, with cream cheese.

I have wrote precious;y how to cook pierogies with braised cabbage or potato.

You can choose any filling you like or invent yours. Yes, it takes time to prepare pierogies but the deliciousness and the ability to store them for as long as you need  make them a great dish to prepare in advance for the holidays or family dinner/
